WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
ISGlobal is looking for a research technician to cover the technical work in a research project on The healthy ageing and urban spaces (HAUS) project - urban environments for active and healthy ageing in the era of climate change is funded by Velux Stiftung
The overarching aim of this study is to examine the contributions and interactive effects of exposure to a wide range of features of the home, neighbourhood and regional environments on healthy ageing indicators in the context of pandemics and heat waves using, respectively, the COVID-19 pandemic and hot weather conditions as natural experiments. Residential environments, and people’s interactions with them, are key determinants of healthy ageing. In the era of climate change and urbanisation, it is important to understand how features of urban environments, encompassing one’s home, neighbourhood and region, support healthy ageing in general and in the context of climate-change-related events, such as animal-borne pandemics and heat waves. Yet, despite people typically performing their daily activities in all three settings (home, neighbourhood and region), knowledge about their joint and interactive effects on healthy ageing is lacking, especially in the context of climate change. These are significant knowledge gaps that need to be promptly addressed to inform multisectoral (e.g., housing, city planning, environmental protection and public health) interventions aimed at mitigating the impact of climate change on older urban dwellers.
