Pathology Technician

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
ISGlobal is seeking a pathology techinician who is interested in taking over and managing pathology-oriented activities of the project Child Health and Mortality Prevention Surveillance (CHAMPS). The overall project goal project is to reduce child mortality by gathering accurate, timely, and reliable data on the causes of death in children under five in sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia. This data is then used to inform public health policies and interventions, ultimately aiming to prevent future deaths.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Process and manage FFPE blocks for histological analysis.
- Perform sectioning, staining (H&E, special stains), and IHC for diagnostic and research purposes.
- Maintain detailed records of specimens, staining protocols, and results.
- Ensure compliance with standardized protocols and quality control measures.
- Collaborate with pathology and research teams to support CHAMPS project goals.
SPECIFIC DUTIES
- Receive and catalog FFPE tissue samples from study sites.
- Embed and section tissues using microtomy techniques.
- Perform H&E, special stains (e.g., PAS, Ziehl-Neelsen), and IHC staining as required by the CHAMPS protocol.
- Monitor reagent quality, staining consistency, and equipment performance.
- Digitize stained slides where required and prepare them for review and archiving.
- Assist in training new staff or rotating trainees as needed.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE / QUALIFICATIONS
- Diploma or degree in Histotechnology, Biomedical Laboratory Technology, or equivalent.
- Formal training in histological techniques, including paraffin embedding, microtomy, and routine staining.
- Minimum 2 years of experience working in a pathology or histopathology laboratory.
- Experience with immunohistochemistry (IHC) and special stains is essential.
- Certification by a recognized board (e.g., ASCP, IBMS) is desirable.
SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS
- Proficiency in handling FFPE (Formalin-Fixed Paraffin-Embedded) tissue samples.
- Skilled in cutting tissue sections, performing routine (H&E) and special stains.
- Strong knowledge of IHC protocols and troubleshooting.
- Familiarity with quality control procedures and laboratory safety standards.
- Ability to maintain accurate records and documentation for research samples.
- Good communication and organizational skills.
- Capacity to work both independently and collaboratively in a research-focused environment.
LANGUAGE LEVEL
- Proficiency in Catalan, English, and Spanish.
CONDITIONS
- Duration: 1 year

- Contract Type: Part time (15 hours per week)
- Salary: Technician I D (34.680€ gross annual)

SELECTION PROCESS
The selection process is designed in two phases:
1- Interview phase of a technical nature, with the team that requires the incorporation. To assess the person's skills and CV.
2 - Meeting with HR with the finalist(s) to finish assessing the profile and discuss contractual and institutional issues.
If needed any technical test could be passed. A Psychological Competency Evaluation Test will be required for the structural or transversal positions.
In accordance with the OTM-R principles, a gender-balanced recruitment panel is formed for every vacancy at the beginning of the process.
