Call for Candidates - ICREA Call 2026
The Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal) is a cutting-edge institute addressing global public health challenges through research, translation into policy and education. ISGlobal has a broad portfolio in communicable and non-communicable diseases including environmental and climate determinants, and applies a multidisciplinary scientific approach ranging from the molecular to the population level. Research is organized in five programs: Climate, Air Pollution, Nature and Urban Health; Environment and Health over the Lifecourse; Global Viral and Bacterial Infections; Malaria and Neglected Parasitic Diseases and Maternal Child and Reproductive Health. ISGlobal is accredited with the Severo Ochoa distinction, a seal of excellence of the Spanish Science Ministry.
ICREA, the Catalan Institution for Research and Advanced Studies, offers permanent positions in the Catalan research system for senior researchers. In 2026, the call is expected to open on the second half of January for the areas of Life & Medical Sciences and of Social & Behavioural Sciences.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
We are looking for outstanding senior researchers willing to apply to an ICREA position at ISGlobal in the areas of Life & Medical Sciences or of Social & Behavioural Sciences. Specifically, we are looking for senior researchers at a level comparable to R3 Consolidated Researchers or R4 Established Researcher according to the European Framework for Research Careers. We are seeking researchers who are in an expansive phase of their career, with an outstanding research record and leadership, highly motivated and committed to join ISGlobal and to its mission, “Improve global health and promote health equity, through excellence in research, translation and application of knowledge”.

REQUIREMENTS
- PhD degree obtained before 2022
- Relevant international exposure at pre-doctoral and/or post-doctoral level
- Not holding a permanent position in the Catalan research system before 1st March 2024

- One Page summary of research plans for the next 5 years
- Motivation letter stating the reasons for choosing ISGlobal as the host institution (for external researchers only)
A delegated committee from ISGlobal’s Scientific Committee will review all applications considering ICREA evaluation criteria (check the ICREA call evaluation guidelines), fit within ISGlobal research programs and commitment to join ISGlobal if awarded. The committee will decide which candidates ISGlobal will support and provide feedback to candidates by mid/end January.
