Research Technician
The Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal) is a cutting-edge institute addressing global public health challenges through research, translation into policy and education. WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
ISGlobal is seeking a Research Technician under the Climate, Air pollution, Nature and Urban health programme. The overall project aim is to improve an existing online tool for assessing the potential impact on health of public space measures. The tool is focused on identifying which elements of public space have a direct link to certain aspects of people’s health. The Research Technician will work on updating the scientific evidence that supports this device, based on the latest tools and published guidelines, establishing indicators and monitoring systems related to public space, and incorporating elements related to climate change and health (mitigation and adaptation). Each of the identified elements of public space related to climate change and with an impact on citizens’ health, should have established indicators as well as desirable standards or ranges, and identify the appropriate measurement instrument for each of them (observational, project document, cartography, etc.). Lastly, the specific potential health problems related to each health determinant should be assessed.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Support all aspects of the project
Work with project coordinators to ensure timely accomplishment of project´s objectives and deliverables
SPECIFIC DUTIES
Support the development, improvement and update of an already existing online tool for local urban technicians and decision makers
Conduct searchers to identify scientific evidence, tools, guidelines and recommendations related to the focus tool
Establish indicators and monitoring systems of climate change elements in public space related to health aspects (mitigation and adaptation)
Identify the potential health problems related to each of the assessed elements
Prepare written material related to the project, ie reports
Work with the project coordinators to create participatory science material related to the potential use of the tool
Provide administrative support to the project
Attend meetings related to the project and take minutes as requested
Other duties as assigned

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE / QUALIFICATIONS
Undergraduate degree in social or biological sciences
Graduate training in public health or related field is valued
Previous experience in research, such as literature reviews and health communication
Experience working in policy is valued
SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS
Ability to work independently and as a team member
Attention to detail
Excellent communication skills
Flexibility
Willingness to travel to within Spain
High level of English and Spanish are required
Familiarity with Microsoft office software, data analysis skills are valued
LANGUAGE LEVEL
High level of English, Spanish and Catalan are required.

Salary: Predoc B (24.933€ gross annual)

SELECTION PROCESS
The selection process is designed in two phases:
1- Interview phase of a technical nature, with the team that requires the incorporation. To assess the person's skills and CV.
2 - Meeting with HR with the finalist(s) to finish assessing the profile and discuss contractual and institutional issues.
If needed any technical test could be passed. A Psychological Competency Evaluation Test will be required for the structural or transversal positions.
In accordance with the OTM-R principles, a gender-balanced recruitment panel is formed for every vacancy at the beginning of the process.
